Differentiation

What is differentiated instruction?

In a nut shell, differentiated instruction is a research-based approach to teaching that responds to the individual needs of students. All students can learn but truly “one size does not fit all” in today’s classroom. You will discover how using multiple approaches, strategies, tools and techniques can increase your students’ achievement. Expectations and standards must be high but still allow for a variety of ways in which students show what they know.  You will explore many effective ways to teach key content by changing the delivery to meet the needs of diverse learners. You will learn how to effectively differentiate by your content, the process you use and what you expect students to be able to know and do taking into account student readiness, interest and learning style. You’ll see how the group setting can be adjusted by whole group, flexible groups, partners or individual tasks to maximize student learning.
